The heavenly Father knows

“For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:32, 33).

Jesus came into the world to save sinners (1Timothy 1:15). The salvation brought by Him was proclaimed via the Good News (Mark 1:15).

There is an inherent aspect of this salvation which must come into our attention in a day like today. The Good News that Jesus preached contained this revelation: God is our Father.

Jesus claimed that God is His Father; He came sent by Him; He came to do His will…and so on. He openly pointed out this relationship (Matthew 11:27). Also (John 8:18ff). That got Him in trouble (John 8:59).

There is more. Jesus also preached and taught His followers that God is their heavenly Father! Is this good news or what?

The heavenly Father knows “a lot of things”.

The thought that God knows “a lot” about “a lot” of things is beyond our full comprehension.

Now, that God knows “so much” about us, may be a little discomforting…you know. We know ourselves enough to desperately wish that some of the things about ourselves would remain hidden from others.

And they remain hidden from others…but not from God.

For us, who have responded to the call of the Holy Spirit, there is nothing to fear: He knows “those who are His” (2Timothy 2:19); He knows that we are fragile: “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak” (Mark 14:38); Jesus sits at the right hand of God as the eternal and compassionate High Priest (Hebrews 10:12).

The Father knows the things we need (Matthew 6:32). When it comes to our needs, to His children’s needs God is presented not as another father – a father among many – but He is presented as “Your Father”.

Celebrate our Father in heaven!
