”But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:32, 33).
God’s knowledge encompasses the whole universe and reaches into our inner most being, down to the smallest particle.
This is at the same time terrifying and comforting.
Now, God’s knowledge would not be of much use for us if it remains at the level of knowledge. We become beneficiaries of God’s knowledge because His knowledge is extended to us in His giving.
Jesus assured His followers that, “…your heavenly Father knows that you need them…But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:32, 33).
These two verses provide a clear connection between God’s knowledge (of our needs) and His gracious provision of the things we need.
God’s grace, or his favour toward those who deserve no favour but only punishment, is never obligated but is always freely given on God’s part. God says, “I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy” (Exodus 33:19).
God’s giving, or his gracious provision toward us, is never obligated but is always freely given. He gives because He is a giver: no one forces Him to give; and no one deserves His giving.
Jesus raised the banner of God’s generosity to address the prevalent mood of people (then and now). For Jesus the antidote against worry is a child-like trust in God’s knowledge and generosity. God knows & gives: that’s a fact!
In a sense God is the Father of all mankind (Ephesians 3:15).
In a special way, God is the Father of His “born from above” children. His children are beneficiaries of some exquisite gifts/provisions (Psalms 37:25).
Take heart: God knows our needs and generously provides for you!
Trust Him. Give thanks!
