“He called out,
“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Luke 18:38).
From the beginning, Jesus’ message was clear and
simple: “The kingdom is at hand. Repent and believe the good news.”
His practical ministry involved acts of healing,
liberation from the dark forces; forgiveness of sins – generally He was busy
doing good to people.
All these were signs of God’s presence among the
people.
Our Scripture today invites us to consider His royal
roots and role – not exalted yet but on His way.
Today we will meet the King.
Jesus and His disciples are getting close to
Jerusalem.
Jerusalem was more than just a travelling
destination…it was the culmination of Jesus’ earthly ministry.
In Jerusalem, Jesus told the Twelve “…everything that is written by the
prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled” (Luke 18:31).
Now, approaching Jericho, there was a blind man
sitting by the roadside…earning his “living”.
I labelled this blind man as an observing blind man.
What was he observing?
Not much, considering his physical condition.
The only “colour” he could see, was black…
They say that given the lack of sight, other senses
develop enhanced functionalities. We say, “By
faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what
is seen was not made out of what was visible. (Hebrews 11:3). By faith, we
see the unseen…we see that which is not visible.
The blind man came to believe that this Jesus of
Nazareth was the promised King – of David’s lineage.
He was eagerly waiting to meet the King…that day
he met Him…and the King was kind to him (Luke 18:42). Have you met King Jesus?
