“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel – which means “God with us. (Matthew 1:23).
We are fast approaching the celebration of Christianity’s most important event: the Resurrection Day.
Paul put it this way, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins” (1Corinthians 15:17).
No other religion celebrates the resurrection of its founder, simply because they are all dead, may they RIP.
“Jesus is alive!” – is our victorious cry and proclamation.
In the traditional Christian Church calendar, the forty days prior to Resurrection Day are designated as Lent. Lent is being observed with the intent to reflect on our Lord’s life and mission, which culminated with His death and burial. The resurrection (and the ascension) can be seen as confirmation of “mission accomplished” (Romans 4:25).
The initiating aspect of His mission was His coming. Several times throughout the New Testament we find the phrase, “He came…” or “…the Son of Man came…”
Every other aspect of His mission is built upon the fact that “He came…”
His coming encompasses: acceptance of the mission; willingness to submit to the Father; readiness to become like one of us; readiness to pay the price; etc.
The important idea to retain and reflect upon is the fact He came “…to His own” (John 1:11)…and ultimately He came to us, “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” – which means, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23).
The truth that He came to us tells me that Jesus came to be with us, and that means relationship: knowing Him and being known by Him…for ever.
Jesus’ mission, the reason why He came to earth, had something to do with us…you and me. Think about it!
